Episode 04: Kim Junggi’s “The Other Side” at the Lotte Art Museum

A look to the “other side”

On the 7th floor of the architectural contemporary landmark of Seoul, the Lotte Art Museum, the exhibition of the world-acclaimed illustrator Kim Junggi invites audiences to cross to the other side of life, death imagination, and time.

Kim has gained the world’s attention with his “Live Drawing” technique, which pushes the boundaries of drawing crossing to the realm of performance. This is a unique opportunity to explore a comprehensive collection that includes materials which served to the artist as an inspiration, as well of more than 1000 drawing made during his career and works in progress that are being developed during the exhibition period.

The exhibition also invites audiences to have a glimpse at his particular worldview. Pop culture is a component that is highlighted in diverse collaborations that the artist has made in projects for Netflix, Blizzard’s World of Warcraft, and Bong Junho’s movie “Parasite”, among others.

The work of Kimjunngi is not only about mastering the technique. It is possible to see that in his works there is a deep med=ssage. Both in form and story there is without any doubt a cinematic approach that submerges audiences in an engaging and intense experience.
