Episode 01: TONG’s VINTAGE: The Strange Tongui General Store at the Daelim Museum

How can a Vintage Store help us deal with climate change?

The answer may be found at Tong's Vintage the exhibition now open at the Daelim Museum.

The exhibition title translates as “Tongui Vintage” in Korean, which is taken from the address of the museum in Tongui-dong, a well-known residential area in the surroundings of the iconic architectural and historical landmark, Gyongbokkung Palace.

Under the concept of a vintage store, the exhibition invites visitors to think about how to deal with climate change, a recurring subject in contemporary art. The exhibition theme was also chosen to commemorate the 2021 P4G Seoul Summit, held in May.

TONG'S Vintage is comprised of 7 different spaces. Each section represents a different material based on the time it takes to decompose in nature, from the slowest to the fastest; starting with glass, plastic, iron, fabric, wood, paper, and paper eco-friendly materials on the top floor.

Visiting the exhibition is a journey trespassing different dimensions filled with discarded objects brought once again into life to help us think about the change we can make.
